Welcome to the School of Nursing at the Medical Sciences Campus. It is a pleasure to greet and invite you to acquire knowledge of our school and share our achievements. The development of our school has been built over time and has become meaningful as we have transferred our mission and vision into action.

Our School of Nursing is today an active institution that treasures deeply what has been achieved in its 75 years of history and 20 years of autonomy. That is why we are continually seeking to improve the quality of our performance. It strives to respond timely and effectively to current challenges and trends and remains alert to respond with excellence to those that may arise in the future.

We are an institution that aims to prepare professionals able to meet the health needs of our people. These leaders are developed within educational programs that seek, not only to prepare them to serve as specialized entities of excellence in the nursing profession, but also encouraged to create inter-professional partnerships with the internal and external community.

It is with great pride that we can say that, all the Schools’ Academic Programs remain accredited since 1952. Initially by National League for Nursing (NLN), and from 2000 to the present by the “Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education” (CCNE) accreditation body of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN for its acronym in English). Also, the Anesthesia Program holds accreditation from the “Council on Accreditation” (COA).

The School of Nursing has contributed to Service, Education, Management and Research in Nursing in and outside of Puerto Rico. The Faculty and school graduates stand out in their performance in service and in management positions, in Education and Nursing Services Administration within Government, Military and Federal Agencies. Many of these graduates now work in the direction of Academic Nursing Programs, the Board of Nurse Examiners of Puerto Rico, the College of Nursing Professionals and Administration of Nursing Services of Health Institutions in the Island, among others.

Since its inception, the school has served the countries of Central and South America, the Caribbean and Spain, admitting students from these places to the different educational programs. Among the students there have been nurses from; Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Colombia, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Ecuador, Santo Domingo, El Salvador and Venezuela, among others.

It is with great satisfaction that I share with you the fact that, the progress of the school is due to a highly qualified faculty, the administration and its academic administrative staff. Due to the tenacity and commitment of all of them, the curricular offerings of the school have evolved in such a way that we keep the following academic offerings dully updated: the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Science in Nursing with various clinical specialties of the Profession such as; Intervention In Critical Care; Mental Health and Psychiatry; Mothers and Children; among others; and the Anesthesia Program. We also offer academic preparation in the roles of Administration and Nursing Education.

In 2012, we began the first Doctoral Nursing Program in Puerto Rico, offering the degree of Doctor of Nursing Science (DNS) focused on research, which graduated its first two students in May 2015. The school has developed a Research Center where at present a number of our faculty members are developing clinical research, and supporting students in their research and evidence based projects. A scholarly effort to contribute to improve the quality of nursing practice and the provision of health services of our population. We also have a Health Promotion Center in the Community of Manuel A. Perez where we extend our services to promote the welfare of the community.

Our School of Nursing at the Medical Sciences Campus is solid, broad-ranging, with future vision, prestige and culturally sensitive. I am honored and excited to share the most recent recognition of the School which is; Being recognized in 2015 as “the best Nursing School on the Island”. This was done by the website “Best Nursing Colleges”, which specializes in classifying university nursing programs in the United States.
